Surgeonfish
Surgeonfishes are a common sight on the reefs. Some species can change their color from light to almost black, while others are easy to recognize thanks to their bright colors.
The name Surgeonfish is given because of a pair of sharp scalpel-like spines on their tail root, which are used for self-defense and to fight off rivals. |
Most Surgeonfishes feed on algae, while some eat plankton. They can be 15-40 cm in length.
